You probably didn’t peg me as a Nascar fan did you? Well, in all honesty, I’m not. That’s why you won’t be seeing any live action racing shots here today but rather the real live fans of the last great redneck frontier. These aren’t the sort of folks I’ve met at art exhibits, pageants, or the local Starbucks. This is a completely different breed from what most of you have ever met.
I feel it prudent to say two very important things. 1: I have utmost respect for the right of freedom of expression. Please do not take anything I say as derogatory towards this subset of southern culture. I assure you all comments are made in good fun, I am after all technically part of this culture myself. ๐ 2: To all my friends across the sea, I promise we aren’t all like this ๐
If you are regular visitor here on Shootabout, you’ve probably realized this post is going to have a little more fun and a little less art than most of my content. I think it’s important to be careful not to take yourself so seriously that you can’t have a laugh every now and then. You can see the photographer above may have taken this a step or two too far.
What’s more american than cheap beer cans hanging off of your nipples. There’s really nothing left to say here.
What is your college degree doing for you? Maybe it’s time to transfer to Clemson University? ๐
Speaking of Clemson, here’s my dad trolling a Clemson fan with his USC hat (USC is Clemson’s arch rival.)
I promise my next post will be inspiring and evocative but every now and then you just have to let loose and have a good laugh. I hope you have enjoyed this break from the usual pace. I always look forward to reading all your comments. Catch me on my social network, Facebook and Twitter links are up there somewhere. Don’t forget to share or reblog if you enjoyed today’s post. I’m getting a bit of traffic from StumbledUpon so if you use it I would love for you to like this page.ย Have a great day and God Bless you.
Oh yeah, here’s a few for the road.
So where do you go from here? Try checking out Annabelle.ย She’sย primarilyย an artist and her photo post from earlier today was going to be her only photography post ever, I guess I convinced her to give it another shot. Give that new post some love and tell her Arley said hello ๐
as a former redneck town resident I can agree that not all rednecks are the same, but these sure are entertaining. I seen a lot of rednecks do stuff like this and I don’t know if I can say that i’m not fazed by it anymore or not LOL. Very funny blog to read and observe!
20 Years in the deep south and this kind of stuff still makes me stop and shake my head, lol
Well, god dang!
lol
The nipple shot…. Oh hell no. Gaahhh!!
lol, I met him going under the bridge underneath the track. He was the only person I asked to stop so I could take his picture.

You should have been there! It was quite a site
MTM and I are both having a big laugh.
Glad you both enjoyed it
Absolutely fantastic! My Gawd! Hot Damn, Son you know how to pick em ๐
Haha, they were ripe for the picking there
Oh my! Great post.
Glad you liked it Mary, it’s a relief to see everyone enjoying the break of pace
Arley, you can call me Mary Lou ๐
Okay Mary Lou ๐ should have told me sooner, I’ve been calling you Mary 3 months, haha
i wanted to make sure you stuck around! Ha
Love the nipple jewellery.
(and I thought Aussie sport fans were ……………………).
These are as good as Walmart photos!
lol, I actually though about that earlier today
Most people wouldn’t peg this new age, spiritualist, artistic, photographer, from Queensland Australia as a NASCAR fan either… but I LOVE it… GO 48!!!!
LOL, glad this post is appreciated on the other side of the world!
Very much so… I have actually been to a race once in Texas… don’t remember seeing people quite like the one’s in your pics.. wish I had though ๐
You should visit SC
This is wonderful! Ah to see the NASCAR natives in all their glory ๐
Epic!
Thanks!
I recently moved to the US, and wondered if the red-neck stereotype was at all accurate.. and I am slowly finding out it is! This is hilarious!! (all in good fun).
lol, no rednecks in Costa Rica? ๐
Hahahaha not like this! ๐
Beer can nipples! Wow! ๐
Despite all of the stereotypes screaming from the top of the hills (and, as a Limey, stereotypes are what we’re all about), these are some seriously good portraits!
Haha, thanks! I’m glad someone got past the subjects long enough to appreciate the pictures themselves!
That was fun! Thanx for this insight into this world ๐
Glad you enjoyed it, and yes, it was a lot of fun
a great series of images, good portraits….but I will say nothing about the fans! Beer cans on your nipples? It takes all sorts to make our great world!
Well said, well said indeed
Absolutely love the trailer shot! No, you could Not have posed it better! Always enjoy a smile in the morning, a big “well hell” thank you!!
oooops, could have had a plaid couch though, smiles
I think the coffee table in the drive way made up for it though! ๐
I’m not a nascar fan but went to an event several years ago. It was a 2 day, sleep in an RV and really live with these folks event. Wow. At the same time, everyone treated me very well. While taking photos at one race, the noise level was VERY high, a sympathetic viewer gave me ear plugs.
They may be crazy, and they may hoop and holler a lot, but when it comes down to it, Southern folks are some of the friendliest in the world. Most of them won’t think twice about helping someone out. Not that we don’t have a few exceptions to the rule though!
Actually this was a nascar event in New York state, about 90 minutes from New York City, so we northerners (I’m from New Jersey) while VERY fast-paced, can relax and be friendly too.
I guess there’s hope yet for you northerners ๐ I don’t see how you do it without sweet tea and chicken biscuits ๐
Oh and yeah, I had to wear ear plugs too. We were way down front, it was intense
very odd ๐
Very odd indeed ๐
funny!!! i laughed til i cried … then i cried some more.
LOL, thanks, glad you enjoyed it until you cried, haha
… and then i cried even more!
What a hoot. In the years I’ve lived in Charlotte, NC, I’ve never wanted to go to the NASCAR speedway, and now I’m laughing about all the reasons you’ll still never see me there. Thank you for the smiles and for visiting my blog today. I look forward to checking out your other posts and photos!
LOL, glad you got to enjoy it without being subjected to it! Thanks for visiting!
Hahahahaha… thanks for the laugh! It is amazing what people will do in public ๐
It really is isn’t it!
Haha, especially like that title!
Thanks, I was between that and Redneck Reservation
lol This is probably the best thing I’ll see all week.
LOL, thanks, I’m glad you liked it so much!
Okay, the pictures you took were great but the captions you gave to each photo were epic! Love them!
Haha, thanks, I don’t always caption my photos but these really called for it
The only shot missing was the one showing people grilling in a metal shopping cart. LOL. The nipple beers? JFSM. LOL
haha, that would have been awesome. I got to ask, I usually stay pretty up on internet slang but what is JFSM?
Just effing shoot me
LOL, thanks!
This is an anthropologists nightmare or dream..:-)
I only pray the next great civilization has more to work with than this blog post when they define our age of humanity. ๐
Thanks for giving my dad a little distraction. He’s had a bit of a go these past months.
I’m glad he enjoyed it, thanks for stopping by! Best wishes to you and your dad!
It’s rare that I laugh out loud at a post. This one definitely did it.
Good to hear! Glad you enjoyed it!
imo, do the ‘cull’ and you’ve got a pretty smart photo essay ๐
Thanks, glad you liked it
Thank you for visiting my blog today! I am just flabbergasted when I saw these images!! We are Nascar fans but have NEVER been to a race, wow you really captured some great moments. I am jealous…I would of loved to been there to shoot these scenes!
It was really quite an experience!
Wow! I recommend starting your own website “The People of Nascar.” I recently discovered People of Walmart…I am so intrigued by it. Anyway, great photographs. They are truly authentic and very interesting.
Haha, that’s a great idea, unfortunately it’s taken and it’s something to see!
Heh, heh, I will have to check it out, thanks!
ABSOLUTE PROOF…..”a picture is worth a THOUSAND words”…I love it!!!
lol, so true, I’m glad you liked it
I believe Southern convention would have us just bless everyone’s hearts at this point. Even the guy with the beer cans hanging from his nipples. That’s dedication!
Haha, indeed it would
Scary (in a really entertaining way !!) And good grief, is there a guy up there in that trailer shot, holding up a couple of hoses to his bum ?
I prefer to think he’s holding a hose behind his back but I’m afraid you may be right!
The guy with the beer can nipple rings beats all I’ve ever seen. lol
That seems to be the general consensus ๐
Ha, quite an awesome cast of characters. Great post!
Thanks, it really was a wild bunch!
That was great! Some laugh out loud shots…absolute classics!
I shared this on my Facebook page…:-)
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it ๐
Thanks, I haven’t laughed so much in a long while.
Glad you got a good laugh
Well for someone from Northern Ontario, this was quite eye-opening. ๐
We have our colorful characters as well, but I think your prolonged warmer climate must some how enhance the colorful quotient. ๐
LOL, that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day
I really like this post and you have a great site.
Thanks Kris, glad you like it
Living just north of the racing capital of the World and in the middle of the 500 weekend, I can say for sure I’ve seen this and more! I was surprised, maybe I missed it, to not see any sign or t-shirt that said “show me your ta-ta’s,
Gosh, the nipple rings look painful.
Doesn’t it though, I couldn’t imagine
Yikes! But bless his heart to dare. ๐
Oh dear lord. The memories this brings back. ๐
I imagine there’s some stories hiding behind that comment ๐
Fine anthropological work ๐ Congrats
and by fine i mean mighty fine
Haha, thanks. I’m glad you liked it
ouch my eyes hurt! Great stuff man!
Very cool photos! And thanks very much for checking out my blog yesterday. ๐
Thanks, this was a memorable day to say the least
Thanks for making me a celebrity… I’m the beer can nipple guy.. I am still laughing today. It was all in good fun and I met some very wonderful people. By the way… I am from New york… Thanks again
WOW! I’m so glad you commented. You definitely just made my day. That’s everyone’s favorite picture, I even saw it floating around Pinterest not long ago!
ha ha ha lmao that is funny… Another picture was also seen on Ebaums world… I must have had my picture taken a 100 times that day.. I go to the Darlington race every year and always have a great time… I will be there in May again so look for me.. lol.. Thanks again
